School's almost here!!  Can you believe it??  Summer went way too quickly!!

Well, with summer ending soon (maybe sooner for some than others), it's always a great time to get back into "The Routine"...  Your routine may look different than others, but nonetheless I think ALL moms can relate to getting back into A ROUTINE of some sort!  For me, by the time summer ends, my brain is SO ready for more of a routine than what we keep in summer!

Which only means we are getting that much closer to the "unofficial start" of Summer...Memorial Day!  SIX more weeks until it's time to get out and start really enjoying the warming weather!  As the weather warms, the big puffy sweaters and jackets will have to go away, thus revealing the "winter weight" that is so easy to pack on during those cold months!

I have no idea where the year has gone already.  We are close to half way through March...We've already had daylight savings and it's staying light longer, which means...Soon it will be SUMMER!!  The countdown is ON!!  There are roughly 12 more weeks until June 1st!  While that may seem like a lot, you KNOW it will fly by so fast and then all of a sudden you'll start to wonder where 2015 has gone and how it became summer already!

So in light of the fact that June is right around the corner, it's time to do some dirty work!  I don't know about you...but it's easy to settle into the "winter body" a little too much.  Even though I live in Southern California, I love to wear cozy clothes and bundle up (yes, I'm a wimp, I bundle up when it's 55 degrees outside)!!  But...I too, can fall into that winter body trap!

21 Day Fix Extreme Week 2 Update and Meal Plan!

Wow!!  I can't believe that week 2 is already completed and I'm on to week 3!  It seemed to go super fast!

With week 1 being so much of an adjustment week with new workouts and new moves, week 2 seemed to be much smoother and I was far less sore!  My body was getting accustomed to the workouts with weights and seemed to adjust better in week 2!

I'm enjoying the workouts and really like adding the weights to it...it brings the level of fitness up a notch and I feel it really is working on areas that I haven't worked on in a while!  So, I'm really enjoying using the weights!

21 Day Fix Extreme Week 2 Update and Week 3 Meal Plan! 21 Day Fix Extreme Meal Plan, www.HealthyFitFocused.com, Julie LittleI think I'm still adjusting some to the style of this workout.  I had just completed the 60 days of Insanity Max 30 and these are very different workouts...both are extreme workouts, but in my opinion, very

different.  So I'm adjusting to the difference in the 2 workouts!  Neither on is "better" or "worse" than the other...just different!

So I told you last week I was playing around with my nutrition for last week.  I still think I 'm trying to find the perfect fit for my nutrition and how I can be the most successful.  I think I'm even going to adjust my meal plan a bit this week as well.  Honestly I'm trying to really focus on when I have the biggest cravings, what it is that I'm craving and how to fuel my body at that time with nutritional foods vs reaching for the tortilla chips or the toast and peanut butter.

One other thing...I think I shared with you that peanut butter is my downfall...like SERIOUS downfall!!  So...one thing I did last week was GIVE THAT UP!  Now, is that necessary in order to follow the Extreme nutrition plan?  NO...but for me, that was a crutch!  I'd crave it and reach for it so therefore, I needed to get rid of it!  For whatever reason, my body just craved a spoonful of it...but now that I have it out of the house, I'm fine.  (And...no, I didn't throw away a full jar of it...we ran out anyways and I am just not going to buy more!).  I have decided to do almond butter instead.  I don't "crave" that like I did PB, so I am totally fine to just have a teaspoon like the nutrition guide calls for!

Nutrition Matters!!
So, let me talk about my meal plan.  I am going super simple and "boring" so to speak...  I'm shredding it down to the bare minimum to make it easy.  I like to get all creative with my recipes sometimes, but that seems to "get me in trouble" at times because there's just too much involved.  (This is for when I'm really trying to focus in on my nutrition real strict that I need it "boring").  And by "boring" I mean that I am probably going to eat the same stuff everyday!

I'm also going to be skiing at the end of the week, so I am trying to make it as simple as possible so that I can eat what I need to when I can while I'm skiing.  Sometimes there's not much in the option department b/c I can't really carry all my food with me.  We bring our lunch, so that won't be a problem.  But, I may have to do a Lara Bar instead of some of my other snack options.

Also, what I did for this week was a major prep day.  On Sunday I was inspired by another coach who did a mass amount of prepping in ONE HOUR!!!  I was not that efficient but I hope to be.  I'm going to be doing another post entirely about prepping my meals for the week...stay tuned!!

I recommend you start out with the 21 Day Fix (Original) to get you started.  This will get you a baseline of fitness and nutrition in order to get you started in reaching your goals!  This teaches you the meal plan and gives you the knowledge you need for nutrition to continue a lifelong way of eating!  My goal is to help you succeed at this level first before you move on!

Intermediate/Advanced Fitness Level - 21 Day Fix Extreme Launch Group
If you're ready to take your fitness and nutrition to the next level then this is for you!  I recommend you have a good baseline of fitness.  Each workout uses weights and is not for the beginner!  This will be perfect for those who have done those more extreme programs.  There is a modifier in each workout, but she is still working hard!  This group will be designed to support you through this program and give you the guidance you need to make it through the 21 Days successfully!!

The Best Coffee Ever... and 21 Day Fix Approved!!!

Ok, so I was introduced to this coffee "recipe" couple months ago from some coaches on our team.  So this is NOT my creation, but it's definitely my coffee love that I crave each morning!!

So I used to be a Splenda-holic, embarrassingly, I would use 4 Splenda in my coffee (grande size at Starbucks)...FOUR!?!?!  Do you know how ultra sweet that is?  Oh my goodness.  It was absolutely SO sweet and because I was using artificial sweeteners it actually would make me crave more sweet things!

The Best Coffee Ever

So, about a year and a half ago, I decided enough was enough...I was starting to eat clean and decided this was one area I needed a MAJOR change!  So, I decided to go cold turkey!  I cut it out completely and stopped using anything to sweeten my coffee.  It took me a while to get used to it, but I really just needed to lose that propensity for so much sweetness.

The other thing I needed to majorly change with my coffee was adding 1/2 and 1/2 to my coffee!  I would add about 4 tablespoons of cream to my coffee each morning.  Do you know how many calories and fat that is per year?

4 Tablespoons of 1/2 & 1/2 per morning:
   -- 25,550 calories/year
   -- 2,190 grams of fat/year

This is equal to an extra 7.3 pounds per year just from my cream in my coffee ALONE!!!

This was absolutely MIND BLOWING when I sat down and did this math!  I couldn't believe it!  Do you know that was enough to make me change what I was doing.

Now, I do understand that there is still fat and calories in my recipe below, however, this fits perfectly into my 21 Day Fix meal plan and I simply use a "fat" teaspoon for this!!!  1/2 & 1/2 is NOT 21 Day Fix friendly!!!



So...here's my "Best Coffee Ever" recipe...21 Day Fix Approved!!!

  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp Coconut Oil - depending on amount of coffee (equal to 1/2 teaspoon on the Fix)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Coffee

Hand blender or blender with glass container.

Put the coconut oil and vanilla extract into your coffee (I place it directly into my coffee pot) and blend!  I have a Cuisinart Smart Stick (hand blender) and stick that directly into my pot and blend!

UPDATE:  I've gotten a lot of questions about suggestions on what to do if you don't have a hand blender or glass container, or if you're at work and can't use a blender.  

  1. Get a larger mason jar (like a 4 cup one) and put the lid on and and get a good arm workout by shaking it up!!!
  2. Get an IKEA, $5.99 frother...these things are awesome.  They are cheap and small but work really well.  WARNING:  You've got to have some space in your mug for it to whip the coffee around or it will be all over you and you'll have a burned hand!!  So again, a mason jar may be a good investment for your morning cup of Joe!  Click HERE to see the IKEA Frother

My Journey from Shape Magazine to a Daily Exercise Habit to Incorporating Nutrition and the 21 Day Fix!

The other day I was sitting with a friend who had a bunch of magazines lying around.  I'm not much of a magazine person at this time in my life, I honestly don't have the time or interest to sit down and read all the articles!  Nor do I want to waste the extra expense if I don't fully read it!

However, looking through her Shape magazine it suddenly brought me back to some memories I had of always searching for a SOLUTION for my up and down weight and feeling good about myself!  Years ago, I would often purchase magazines like Shape or Fitness because I was just trying to find a way that I could get in shape like so many of those women featured in the magazine, who knows...they could have all been airbrushed...but nonetheless I was searching for what to do.  I would cut out the pages of the magazine and try and "trouble shoot" my problem areas...my tummy, hips, thighs...whatever it may be!  I would do some of those exercises for a couple days and then not continue.

I just remember always wishing I could get results like that.  Thinking if I just followed those 5 exercises that it could happen.  But there were many parts missing.  What were they???  For me, this is what was missing:

2)  You can't trouble shoot your problem areas:  These 5 or so workouts they would give in the magazine articles were great, but you're not going to get the overall body transformation from 5 different exercise moves.  It didn't suggest full body training or cardio in these articles!

3)  No nutritional plan:  With these articles I would clip out, there was nothing that talked about your nutrition and that in order to get results like these models you've got to change your daily nutritional habits.  Now, it may say a snip it about nutrition, but it didn't teach me how to do it!  That's what I needed...someone to help me understand the full extent of how to eat healthy, what that looked like and what kind of portions I needed have each meal!  I was clueless what that looked like!

4) Daily Motivation:  I am someone who thrives from motivation!  Sometimes I can motivate myself, but not in all areas of my life.  Especially at the time of my magazine clip outs...I was motivated for the 30 minutes that I was reading that magazine.  But it stopped as soon as I set the clipping on my dresser!  I forgot about it, I got overwhelmed thinking I would never get results like I want...I sabotaged myself just in my thinking!  So... I quit!

5)  Support:  The magazine clipping didn't give me the support I needed.  It was a resource, a picture, an ideal that I felt like I couldn't reach.  It was not someone on the other side of the clipping saying..."Don't give up", "You can do this", "Let me help you"!  Last time I checked, magazines didn't talk or give me personal support and daily motivation and help!!

For many years I went through this process of clipping exercise moves thinking this was the way to go.  But it never worked for me!  I continued to find things that I thought would work...gyms and classes that I would attend for only a month or 2, back in college I did Jenny Craig, I tried various other activities or exercises and it just didn't work for me.  Why?  For me, it came down to support and motivation.  I discovered that I work best and get the greatest success when someone has my back!  When someone is asking me how my day went, when someone is giving me to tools to know how to eat and how much to eat, when I have the daily support and motivation!

So...what was that for me?  It was finally discovering a Challenge Group.  Plugging into the daily support, motivation, guidance, teaching and a group of people working toward the same goal!!  It was surrendering myself to get accountability from others who have succeed, who have gone through the same testing of other things that I did.

Pretty much, in a nutshell...it's what I mentioned above.  It's a support/accountability group.

When I first joined a challenge group, I was introduced to clean eating.  I learned the basics of it and had great success.  However, when the 21 Day Fix was first released in February 2014, this brought it to a whole new level of understanding.  It taught me what were the appropriate portion sizes to have at each meal and how much of each food group I should be eating every day. It took all the guess work out of what I needed in order to be successful!
